Frequently Asked Questions

Provided below are some of the most common questions we are asked. Feel free to contact us if you require further clarification.

Booking a Charter

Is chartering a private yacht affordable?

Yes indeed. Consider that the overall costs are divided over the number of passengers. Chartering a private yacht often times is less expensive than staying at a Five Star all-inclusive resort or even a cruise on a large cruise ship. On a private yacht you are free to go where and when you please.

Are Sweet Dreams yachts chartered with captains or do I have to captain my own boat?

Your charter fee includes a full time captain. This is your vacation and we want you to sit back, enjoy the views and not to worry about anything except enjoying one of the most beautiful sailing areas on earth.

On cruise ships, we tip the crew, is this common for private yachts as well?

Yes. If you are pleased with the service of our captain and crew a tip from your group would be greatly appreciated. Industry guidelines suggest tips of 10%-15% of the charter fees. This is voluntary on your behalf.

What is the booking process?

Call us at 1-844-SWT-DRMS (798-3767) to speak with a representative who can discuss your travel plans.

What travel documents are required?

A valid US passport is required for entry into St. Thomas, St. John and the British Virgin Islands. For the Spanish Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, U.S. citizens do not require a passport. We encourage our passengers to bring a valid credit card and driver’s license as well. Some water sports operations may require them.

Yachting

I’ve never been on a private yacht, what should I bring?

Pack lightly. Remember the average temperature is in the mid 80’s and higher. Being on the ocean means you have more of an opportunity to get wet, by choice of course, so most of our passengers wear swim clothes throughout their vacation. Besides, anything more formal than that and you’ll feel out of place.

  • Soft-sided luggage and bags are recommend as they are more flexible, easy to stow
  • Shoes with rubber soles are required on our yachts. They provide better grip and do not damage paint or wood
  • Prescription medication
  • Sun Block, a cover up for shore excursions, (locals are very modest and swim suits on the streets are frowned upon.)head coverings and sunglasses are recommended.
  • Bring along your iPod but try to leave your laptop or cell phone at home or at least where you will not be tempted to disturb your vacation.
Note – Smoking is not allowed on board

Is there a refrigerator on board to store my prescription medication?

Yes

How is cell phone service on the ocean?

Depending on your cell phone carrier, you may have good quality service in the U.S. Virgin Islands. When entering the British Virgin Islands, you may experience international calling and data rates. Please consult your service provider before your sailing date. In case of emergencies, our captain has a satellite phone.

If I really like a place we are visiting, can we stay there longer than the scheduled time?

One of the best parts of your crewed charter is you and the captain can determine, based on your desires and other factors such as weather, safety and time, when and where you want to go. Moreover, those places you miss can be covered on your next trip.
